Erica Lee Byrum is one of the attorneys at Shames & Byrum and brings an innovative and creative approach to the firm’s clients. Ms. Byrum was born and raised in Virginia Beach, Virginia, is a graduate of Kempsville High School, and completed her undergraduate work at Virginia Wesleyan College, where she achieved her Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications and Art. After completing her undergraduate degree, she read law under Robert G. Byrum, her Father. She began practicing law at Shames & Byrum in 2009.

Her main focus is Guardian litem work, family law and criminal defense. She spends a large majority of her time in Chesapeake and Norfolk Juvenile & Domestic Relations Courts. She is a member of the Chesapeake Bar Association.

She prides herself on returning phone calls promptly, being easy to speak with and believes that trust and communication are essential with her clients. She believes in crafting innovative and creative legal solutions for a positive outcome for her clients. Not only is she a hardworking and tough litigator in the court room, but also personable and an excellent communicator. In her free time she enjoys traveling, swimming and spending time with her family.
